This one is our own personal view on touch, the place Angel and I keep coming back to. Over the next two guides we'll get into what actually happens in a tantra massage, and why it matters.

1. OPENING

The other day, I was talking with a friend who leads conscious consent workshops. Something he said has stayed with me since.

“Most people ask for something, but actually want something else. A man asks a woman for a dance, but in his heart, he really wants a kiss. He asks for the dance hoping it might lead there. Why doesn’t he just ask for the kiss? Because he’s afraid of rejection. And the woman says no, not because she doesn’t want the dance, but because she senses he might want more. We feel this energetically. The intention isn’t aligned with the request.”

This, too, is true for touch.

A lot of the time we touch to receive. We touch to soothe our own anxiety. To prove we’re intimate. To fill the silence when we feel disconnected. We reach for skin but miss the person beneath it.

And this isn’t wrong, exactly. It’s simply what happens when we forget that touch, at its deepest level, isn’t about doing. It’s about being.

2. THE BODY AS ORACLE

Angel often shares something he’s noticed over his years offering tantra massage: the body holds memories the conscious mind can’t reach.

A hand placed with reverence on someone’s sacrum can unravel years of held grief. A slow, intentional stroke along the spine can loosen breath that’s been held since childhood.

This is part of what tantra points to. Every inch of skin can be a doorway, and not only to pleasure. Also to presence.

3. WHEN TOUCH BECOMES MEDITATION

Not A Means To An End

Over seven days in our retreats, we explore what happens when touch is freed from its usual job. When it’s not a means to an end, but a meditation in itself.

We learn to feel the difference between a hand that grasps and a hand that receives. Between touch that tries to create arousal and touch that honors whatever is already alive in the body.

This is when the boundary between giver and receiver starts to soften. When we remember we’re not separate from something larger. We’re already part of it.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common Questions About Tantra MASSAGE

HOW IS TANTRA MASSAGE DIFFERENT FROM A REGULAR MASSAGE?

A regular massage usually focuses primarily on the physical body, such as relaxing muscles or releasing tension. In Tantra Massage, touch is also approached as a practice of presence. The attention is not only on what the hands are doing, but on the intention behind the touch, the awareness of the person receiving it, and what is already happening in the body. The experience is less about reaching a particular outcome and more about staying present with sensation, breath, and connection.

WHY IS INTENTION IMPORTANT IN TANTRA MASSAGE?

Tantra works consciously with energy, often understood as Shakti. Intention gives that energy direction. In Tantra Massage, the way we touch, the quality of our attention, and the intention we bring all shape how energy moves through the experience. Without clear intention, touch can easily become unconscious or driven by habit. With intention, it becomes a deliberate practice of directing awareness and energy rather than simply performing a technique.

WHAT DOES TANTRA MASSAGE FEEL LIKE?

Tantra Massage can feel very different from one person to another. For some, it may be deeply pleasurable, relaxing, or expansive. For others, it may bring emotions or old experiences to the surface, sometimes expressed through tears, laughter, trembling, or a sense of release.

This is because Tantra does not view the human being as only a physical body. In the Tantric and Yogic traditions, we also work with subtler layers of experience, often described through the koshas. Touch can therefore be experienced physically, energetically, emotionally, and mentally.

There is no particular response that needs to happen. The practice is about creating the conditions to feel what is present in the body, whether that is pleasure, emotion, stillness, resistance, or something unexpected.
