FOUNDATIONS | SACRED SEXUALITY
Tantra doesn't work with sexual energy because it is about sex. It works with it because this is where the force runs deepest. This guide looks at why Tantra sees sexual energy as powerful life force, and what becomes possible when it is met consciously.

PART 3
Sexual Energy Is Sacred Energy
Why Tantra sees sexual energy as powerful life force, and what becomes possible when it is met consciously.
In the last two newsletters we introduced the subtle body and the force that moves through it — here, we look at where that force runs deepest.
Tantra does not treat sexual energy as something separate from spiritual energy, something to be transcended or kept in its place. It treats it as the same Shakti, the same living current, in its most potent and accessible form.
The tradition calls this concentrated life force ojas. When it is met with awareness rather than simply discharged, something different becomes possible. It is described as a wave rising through the spine, felt as heat, electricity, or a quiet full-body streaming that reaches into parts of the self that rarely open.
When this energy reaches the heart, it transforms. What was raw desire becomes something that feels much closer to love. When it reaches beyond that, it is said that the boundary between self and other becomes temporarily permeable.
This is why Tantra placed sexuality at the center of the path. Not because the tradition is about pleasure, but because it recognised sexual energy as the most abundant and accessible form of this force, and from there, the most direct entry point into awakening.

Reading about this is one thing. Most people find that knowing it conceptually doesn't shift how it actually moves in their life, or why it isn't moving at all. The energy that feels blocked, or the intimacy that has slowly become routine – those moments where you feel connection is possible, but somehow it never reaches its full depth.
That gap between understanding and experience is exactly what a retreat holds space for.

"Originally I came to learn new techniques for massage. But what I really learned was something far greater; how to move energy in the body, and how to open myself up to finally receive."

01
Sexual energy is a life force, not just a reproductive one. From a Tantric perspective, it is the fundamental spark that animates the body and the most potent resource we carry.
02
You can feel it. You probably already have. Think of a moment of genuine creative inspiration, a surge of aliveness after cold water, or the electricity before a first kiss. That charge is not separate from sexual energy. In Tantric understanding, it is the same current moving through different channels.

Yes. Tantra doesn't split the two apart. It sees sexual energy as Shakti itself, the same living current that moves through everything, just in its most potent and accessible form. Nothing needs to be transcended or set aside. It's the same force, met with more awareness.
Ojas is the tradition's word for concentrated life force, the energy that becomes available when sexual energy is met with awareness instead of simply discharged. It's often described as a wave rising through the spine, felt as heat, electricity, or a quiet streaming through the whole body.
Not because the path is about pleasure. Tantra places sexuality at the center because it recognized sexual energy as the most abundant, most accessible form of the life force we carry, and from there, the most direct way in.
Yes. When this energy reaches the heart, what began as raw desire starts to feel much closer to love. Carried further, it can soften the felt boundary between self and other. The energy doesn't change into something unrelated, it deepens into what it already was.
Not in the way most people assume. Tantra works with sexual energy because it's where this force runs deepest and is easiest to feel, not because the practice centers on sex itself. It's a doorway, not the destination.
