In this article

This is the one we have been building toward.

Female sexuality is the most expansive, most misunderstood, and most underexplored territory in all of intimacy. Most women have grown up with almost no real map of what their own body is truly capable of.

Tantric and yogic traditions offer something entirely different. Not a technique, but a genuine recognition: that a woman's body is a sacred instrument of extraordinary depth, and that opening fully in intimacy is not simply a physical event. It is a whole-body, whole-being transformation.

Here is what those traditions actually say.

2. WHAT TANTRA TEACHES ABOUT FEMALE SEXUALITY

01

Female Opening Is Physical, Emotional and Energetic. In tantric practice, a woman's opening in intimacy is a multi-dimensional process: physical, emotional, and spiritual all at once. The heart center, known as Anahata, is considered a woman's true powerhouse. When aroused sexual energy is guided upward from the body toward the heart, intimacy transforms. It is no longer just a physical exchange but a site of genuine energy transformation, where raw desire refines into love, joy, and deep connection. For a woman, the heart is not separate from sexuality. It is where sexuality becomes whole.

02

The Yoni Holds Memory and Responds to Safety. Tantric teachings describe the yoni as a reflexive organ that carries cellular memory of past stress, trauma, and emotional experience. When safety is present, the body can release. When it isn't, a woman may find herself physically present but emotionally or energetically closed, not from a lack of desire, but from a deeper, instinctual self-protection. This is not a flaw. It is the body being intelligent. The question tantric practice asks is: how do we create the conditions where that protection is no longer needed?

03

Tantra Describes Multiple Types of Feminine Orgasm. Modern sexology has focused almost entirely on clitoral stimulation as the primary source of female pleasure. Tantric teachings offer a completely different picture. Traditional texts describe seven distinct types of feminine orgasm, each associated with different energy centers in the body. The map is vastly larger than most women have ever been shown.

04

Female Arousal Needs Time, Safety and Presence. One of the most important and least talked about differences between male and female sexuality is this: a woman's body warms up on a completely different timeline. While a man can move from zero to aroused in moments, a woman's full arousal is a slow, layered unfolding, physically, emotionally, energetically. Rushing this process doesn't just limit pleasure. It bypasses it entirely. Both men and women benefit from understanding this. For a woman, knowing it gives permission to ask for the time she needs. For a man, knowing it changes everything about how he shows up.

3. THE role of safety in female sexuality

  • When safety is absent: The yoni closes its receptivity. Not always visibly, not always consciously. But intimacy becomes muted, flat, or even painful. The body is present. The woman is not fully there. This is not a personal failing. It is a deeply intelligent biological response.

  • When safety is present: The body lets go. Everyday concerns dissolve. Energy moves freely through the whole being. A woman can arrive fully, not just physically but in every layer of herself. This is what intimacy can feel like when safety is the foundation.

"A woman's body does not withhold. It waits. It waits for the moment it knows, with every cell, that it is safe."

4. WHEN RECEIVING CAN FEEL DIFFICULT FOR WOMEN

We live in a world that has taught women to be strong, independent, self-sufficient. To not need anyone. To keep their guard up. And all of that is true and valuable, out in the world.

But in sexuality, the same armor that protects us in daily life can also keep us from experiencing intimacy at its full depth. Because to open fully, a woman needs to be able to receive. And receiving requires letting go of the guards that modern life asks us to maintain constantly.

This is not weakness. It is one of the most courageous things a woman can do.

So, dear women, honestly: are you truly letting your partner in? Or are some of your guards still quietly up, even in your most intimate moments? Sit with that. The conditioning to stay protected, to not need, does not disappear when we close the bedroom door. It comes with us. And it is worth asking, with kindness, what it would feel like to truly let go.

5. A SIMPLE TANTRIC PRACTICE FOR WOMEN

PRACTICE: NOTICE WHERE YOUR GUARD IS

Before your next intimate moment, try one thing. Before anything happens, place your hand on your heart. Not as a gesture. As a conscious arrival. Take three slow breaths into that space and ask yourself: am I here? Am I actually present, or am I already somewhere else?

Notice what you feel. Not to judge it. Just to know where you are starting from.

The heart is where tantric teachings say a woman's opening truly begins. Not lower. Here. This is the door.

If you feel called to explore this in person and in greater depth, we invite you to discover our upcoming retreats.

1. Opening: Presence & Breath

01

Sexual energy is a life force, not just a reproductive one. From a Tantric perspective, it is the fundamental spark that animates the body and the most potent resource we carry.

02

You can feel it. You probably already have. Think of a moment of genuine creative inspiration, a surge of aliveness after cold water, or the electricity before a first kiss. That charge is not separate from sexual energy. In Tantric understanding, it is the same current moving through different channels.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common Questions About TantRIC Sexuality FOR WOMEN

WHAT IS TANTRIC SEXUALITY FOR WOMEN?

Tantric sexuality for women is an approach to intimacy that brings awareness, breath, safety, pleasure, and energy into the sexual experience. Instead of seeing sexuality as only physical, tantra understands a woman’s body as deeply connected to emotion, the heart, the nervous system, and the whole being.

WHY IS SAFETY SO IMPORTANT IN FEMALE SEXUALITY?

Safety is essential because a woman’s body often opens through trust, relaxation, and emotional presence. When safety is missing, the body may protect itself by closing, tensing, becoming numb, pain, or feeling disconnected. And this is not seen as a failure, but as the body’s intelligence. When safety is present, pleasure and intimacy can unfold more fully.

WHAT DOES TANTRA TEACH ABOUT THE YONI?

In tantric teachings, the yoni is not seen as just a physical organ. It is understood as a sensitive, receptive, and intelligent part of the body that can respond to safety, emotion, memory, and energy. Tantra invites women to relate to the yoni with reverence, patience, and awareness rather than pressure or performance.

WHY DOES FEMALE AROUSAL OFTEN NEED MORE TIME?

Female arousal is often a slower and more layered process than male arousal. It may involve the body, heart, emotions, nervous system, and sense of safety. Rushing this process can limit pleasure or create disconnection. Tantra teaches that time, presence, and attunement are not extras. They are part of the path into deeper feminine pleasure.

WHAT IS FEMININE SEXUAL ENERGY IN TANTRA?

Feminine sexual energy in tantra is understood as a powerful life force that can move through the whole body. It is not limited to genital pleasure or orgasm. When met with breath, presence, and safety, this energy can open into love, creativity, sensitivity, vitality, and deep embodied connection.

DOES TANTRA SAY WOMEN CAN HAVE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ORGASM?

Yes. Tantric traditions describe feminine orgasm as more expansive than one single physical event. Rather than focusing only on clitoral orgasm, tantra speaks about different forms of pleasure and orgasmic experience that can arise through the whole body, the heart, the yoni, and the energetic centers.

HOW CAN A WOMAN BEGIN PRACTICING TANTRIC SEXUALITY?

A simple beginning is to pause before intimacy and place one hand on the heart. Take three slow breaths and ask: am I present? Do I feel safe? Is my body open, guarded, numb, curious, or alive? This small moment of awareness can shift intimacy from automatic behavior into conscious connection.
